The 2006 Island Workshops
In July and August 2006 we are holding island workshops around the Great Lakes with the latest information about the 31, 407 U.S. and Canadian Great Lakes islands as a collection:
*COMPLETED: July 28 in Traverse City, Michigan (Lake Michigan and Lake Huron islands) -- Presenters were Dr. David Ewert (Nature Conservancy--Great Lakes Program), Dr. Francie Cuthbert (University of Minnesota, and Dr. Karen Vigmostad (formerly of the Northeast-Midwest Institute). A dozen participants from federal, state, and local management and planning agencies, land conservancy, and educators. Workshop concluded with a sail on the magnificent schoolship the Inland Seas out toward Power Island in Grand Traverse Bay, Lake Michigan.
*COMPLETED: July 31 in Thunder Bay, Ontario (Lake Superior islands) -- Presenters were Mr. Dan Kraus (Nature Conservancy of Canada) and Dr. Karen Vigmostad. Thirty participants from federal, provincial, and local management and planning agencies, educators, Lake Superior Binational Forum, and citizens. The workshop was covered by public radio (Ontario Today), television, and newspaper.
*COMPLETED: August 3 on Grosse Ile, Michigan (St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, Detroit River, and Lake Erie islands) -- Presenters were Ms. Megan Seymour (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) and Dr. Karen Vigmostad. The eighteen participants were researchers and managers from federal and state management agencies, land conservancies, educators, Remedial Action coordinator, and citizens.

*August 21 in Clayton, New York (Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River islands) -- Presenters will Ms. Megan Seymour, Mr. Dan Kraus, and Dr. Karen Vigmostad. (pdf poster announcement) This is your last chance to come in person.
There is no fee and you do not need to pre-register.
Travel support: $50 honorariums are available to support travel for NGO, tribe, and First Nation participants. The workshop includes an open house to view maps and other materials, PowerPoint presentation, question-and-answer period, and informal discussions and networking.
